Our red oak, planted in 2001, is dropping A LOT of mostly green leaves. It appears there are narrow lines at many of the joints. I heard this could be from cicadas laying eggs the previous year. Does this sound like a possibility? If so, what treatment would you recommend? Thanks
Sorry for the really long delay. Yes, this does seem like cicadas have laid eggs. As a result, the eggs have hatched and the cicada are eating at the joins. The best treatment would be to purchase an insect killer for cicadas to kill off any living bugs and the eggs. It's a shame it happened on a red oak, they are beautiful plants. Hope it helps, Rhys
